John brings over 15 years of experience in the arboriculture industry. He is an expert in tree identification and plant history. His passion and knowledge in the field is unique and engaging. He received a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley University. He is also an ISA Certified Arborist and an ASCA Registered Consulting Arborist. John is a member of the Men’s Garden Club of Philadelphia, The Professional Grounds Management Society, The Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents and serves on the Advisory Committee for the American Conifer Society. In his spare time, he is an avid gardener and enjoys collecting rare specimen plants and trees.
John’s favorite plant is the Japanese umbrella pine. It is the most unique conifer with thick rubbery needles. Fossil evidence of the Japanese umbrella pine dates back 230 million years. John has approximately two dozen cultivars of this rare and unique plant in his garden.
